Cambium Networks ePMP Force 425 - The Industry’s First Point-to-Point Solution Based on 802.11ax

A case for wireless broadband, part 3

In the previous articlewe talked about OFDMA, the defining principle behind the 802.11ax wireless standard. Also known as WiFi6, this wireless standard is prominently featured in WiFi communication to enhance network performance, especially in crowded areas where numerous devices compete for access. But what about Fixed Wireless Access applications to provide wireless internet access to homes or businesses without laying fiber?

Optace Networks is happy to present Cambium Networks ePMP Force 425; the industry's first point-to-point solution based on the 802.11ax wireless standard, designed to deliver gigabit performance at a breakthrough price point. ePMP Force 425 is the ideal solution for service providers looking to deliver high-capacity access services to Enterprise and residential customers. It also serves as a low-cost backhaul for MicroPOPs and outdoor Wi-Fi access points that require lots of capacity at a moderate range without the overhead of licensed microwave.

OFDMA in Force 425

The ePMP Force 425 leverages OFDMA from the 802.11ax standard to deliver high efficiency and performance of point-to-point links backhaul links by increasing the overall bandwidth and reducing latency.

Coupled with Cambium’s proprietary ePTP protocol with features such as 1024QAM, 80 MHz channels, OFDMA divides the available bandwidth into multiple subcarriers, which are then transmitted in parallel, allowing for a higher overall throughput than would be possible with a single carrier. The subcarriers in OFDMA are spaced orthogonally meaning that they do not interfere with each other making the ePMP Force 425 less susceptible to interference.

The result is a highly efficient frame structure that sets the ePMP Force 425 to deliver Gigabit performance with less than 5 ms latency for up to 32 km. This makes it a reliable choice for point-to-point links in noisy environments.

Gigabit Performance Last-mile Fiber alternative

With an integrated SFP port and optional GPON ONU module, the Force 425 makes a great fiber extension to reach places where fiber cannot. The Force 425 pushes this capacity farther than ever with an integrated 25 dBi dish (and even farther with the optional 28 dBi range extender). The optional range extender is ordered separately and can be assembled and attached in the field to add additional link budget and fade margin for challenging links or to move to higher capacity where needed and higher modulations can be achieved.

Target Markets/ Industry Applications of the Force 425

  • High-capacity enterprise access

  • Low-cost WISP backhaul

  • Wi-Fi hotspot backhaul

  • GPON last mile
